What is Nexletol?
Nexletol (bempedoic acid) is a prescription oral tablet used to lower LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol in adults with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia or established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease who require additional LDL reduction beyond what a maximally tolerated statin provides. It works by inhibiting ATP-citrate lyase (ACL), an enzyme in the cholesterol biosynthesis pathway in the liver that sits one step upstream of the target of statin drugs. Nexletol is manufactured by Esperion Therapeutics and is taken once daily.
